What is your background?

I am from East London, in the Eastern Cape province. I would like to describe myself as an artist, an art activist. I have background in performance art theatre. I am also an entrepreneur, and I have a company called Railway Communication, which is concerned with book publishing.

How did you get involved with CRF?

I recently applied for a job at the organisation. Being with CRF is an opportunity to inspire young people to express themselves using radio, and also for them to tell their own stories.

What makes you excited to go to work every day?

To learn from young reporters, to facilitate a conducive learning environment for all of us. I believe that we need to pay particular attention to the issues that young people are dealing with so as to find workable solutions that will be good to everyone.

What is your background?

My background is in Corporate Finance and Strategy. I have an Honors Degree in Business Finance and also majored in Accounting and Information Systems. I am also a Chartered Financial Analyst.

How did you get involved with CRF?

My relationship with CRF began as a short consulting gig to help CRF better manage its finance and the role grew into a part time role as the Financial Director. I was introduced to the CRF family by a board member who I have known for many years from my university days in Johannesburg.

Since March 2014, Mathapelo is the Project Manager for the Young Reporters Network in South Africa. She coordinates 275 youth reporters across 18 sites in all nine provinces of South Africa, assisting with direct program support, new project development and community-based partnerships.

What is your background and how did you get involved with CRF?
I’ve been a production member in various commercials as well as international and South African feature films. Production is a logistically heavy job and so when i heard of the CRF  Project Manager vacancy, it was an opportunity to align my logistical abilities with my outreach shaped heart.

Nina, Assistant Director of CRF

Nina Callaghan

Nina is the Assistant Director at CRF administering the SA board, local partnerships, is a youth media trainer and producer for CRF’s weekly radio show, The Radio Workshop. Before joining CRF she spent eight years as a television journalist and sub-editor. She completed a Higher Diploma in Library and Information Science working as a children’s librarian and went on to devise and perform theatre locally and in the UK.
