We use radio to amplify youth voices across Africa, giving them the skills and tools to speak about their lives
Our South African Youth Reporters from Lebowakgomo in the Limpopo Province (South Africa) won the 2013 Youth Award for the Radio for Peacebuilding Africa (RFPA) Competition!
Today our Youth Reporter Taetso Mphahlele (17 years old), a member of the South Africa Young Reporters Network is picking the Youth Award in Kigali Rwanda at the RFPA Awards Ceremony on behalf of his team’s show ‘Boom Talk’ on community radio station Greater Lebowakgomo FM.
“I am really excited that we won this award because it shows that we are making a difference in our community about issues that affect our peers”, says Taetso. The RFPA Awards recognize quality radio programs that contribute to building peace and tolerance in the continent.
Taetso alongside Thato Rachamose (17 years old) and Chris Chuene (17 years old) researched, produced and presented the winning program on ‘Cyberbulling’. “We’d noticed that there were a lot of people who were affected by bullying on Facebook and other social media networks”, reflects Thato. The three classmates have been members of the South Africa Young Reporters Network since 2011.
Well done ‘Boom Talk’ we couldn’t be more proud!
