On the 16th of June 2013, the Children’s Radio Foundation hosted the very first South Africa Youth Radio Awards. The awards celebrate the inspirational work of our Young Reporters and our partner Community Radio Stations. After Thato from Lebowakgomo last week, Kabelano from Kuruman shares his memories of the Awards.

The Kuruman’s team show “Cracking it!”, broadcast every saturday on Kurara FM, won the Award for Best Show in 2013. And they hope to be back for more this year! Here are Kabelano’s thoughts about bringing the trophy home and what it is like to be a YNRer:

“It was fantastic to have won the Award for best show. I remember during the Awards, I couldn’t believe it, I could hear everybody screaming, I couldn’t stop smiling.

When I first joined the project , I thought it was about playing and enjoying ourselves. I thought that producing a show was an easy thing to do, nothing hard, nothing creative. But I realized that’s it’s a lot of work but it’s also fun, as we now know what we are doing. They say the sky is the limit, so the sky is going to be our limit”.
