We use radio to amplify youth voices across Africa, giving them the skills and tools to speak about their lives
The Optimistic Youth Reporters from the Centre of Science and Technology (COSAT) got their moment to shine on TV last week, as the launch of their high school radio station featured on SABC News Morning Live show!
Following the official launch of the radio station in October 2015, which was documented on video by Makhulu, the Optimistic Youth Reporters from Khayelitsha recently hosted their parents and family members who came for the screening of the video about the dynamic young reporters. The live broadcast was the young reporters debut on air; the show was live streaming on the internet.
Parents and COSAT principal Phadiela Cooper lauded the young reporters talents and professionalism. Many parents said that they did not realise until the screening, what their children were learning to do in the weekly radio workshop sessions. They said that they very were proud of the young reporters efforts and encouraged them to remain curious about the world.
Also in attendance at the screening was the Children’s Radio Foundation (CRF) US board chairperson Linda Barnett and CRF’s president Charlotte Banister-Parker.
The young reporters provided a mock demonstration of a radio show at the radio booth for their parents.
