We use radio to amplify youth voices across Africa, giving them the skills and tools to speak about their lives
Ahead of the 17th International Conference on AIDS and STIs in Africa (ICASA) from 7-11 December, the ICASA YouthFront kicked off yesterday. The theme of the youth pre-conference is: “Now More Than Ever – Getting to Zero: for youth, by youth, with youth“.
The ICASA YouthFront is a coalition of youth-serving organisations working on HIV/AIDS and Sexual & Reproductive Health and Rights of Young People in Africa. The core mandate of the YouthFront is to ensure effective and active participation of young people in ICASA. And we are helping them do just that!
Four of our youth reporters, two from the Zambian Young Reporters Network and two from the Future Positive initiative are attending the youth pre-conference and the ICASA conference – taking part in sessions, workshops, discussions and engaging with youth, specialists and activists.
Yesterday the four youth reporters led an interactive session with fellow youth delegates from all across Africa, sharing what they do, playing examples of their work and gathering opinions from them on interesting statements like ‘female condoms are not user-friendly’.
We’ll keep you updated on what we learn, discover and record throughout the conference on our blog and SoundCloud.
Have a listen to youth reporter Katongo Kampamba on his expectations of the next few days.
