Name of Staff member: Lungi Mjwara
Location: Cape Town
What is your background?
My background is in Social Work, Programme Development & Management. I hold an B Social Work Degree and a Masters Degree in Child & Family Studies. I have spent over 10 years in the NGO sector, mainly in child protection, developing and leading psychosocial programmes, as well as proving support on organizational development issues. I currently sit on the board of directors of a few social change organizations.
How did you get involved with CRF?
I was headhunted by a recruitment specialist for the South Africa Country Manager position at CRF. Luckily I already knew about organization, the work that they do, and was interested in being part of it. I then followed a formal recruitment process. I thereafter joined the organization, and hit the ground running.
What makes you excited to go to work every day?
Seeing the impact of our work in the youth and communities that we work with. Interacting with some of the activities and youth at the CRF sites. Seeing their energy and drive to make a change in their communities. It is quite rewarding to know that what I do adds value in other people’s lives.
What has been the highlight of your service? Since being with the Children’s Radio Foundation for four months, some of the highlights include visiting some of the sites, meeting youth reporters and being part of the activities.
What do you think makes CRF an exceptional organization? The passion and energy of the people in the organization.
