We use radio to amplify youth voices across Africa, giving them the skills and tools to speak about their lives
Name of staff member: Thando Makamo Ntoi
Location: Cape Town, South Africa
What is your background?
My background is in Corporate Finance and Strategy. I have an Honors Degree in Business Finance and also majored in Accounting and Information Systems. I am also a Chartered Financial Analyst.
How did you get involved with CRF?
My relationship with CRF began as a short consulting gig to help CRF better manage its finance and the role grew into a part time role as the Financial Director. I was introduced to the CRF family by a board member who I have known for many years from my university days in Johannesburg.
What makes you excited to go to work every day?
The challenge of reconciling the human aspect of delivering our program to our beneficiaries with the business aspect of ensuring we do so efficiently, but more importantly sustainably, to ensure we can do it for many years to come. The satisfaction of hearing the positive feedback CRF receives from the young people who walk the journey with CRF. The pride of knowing I contribute to something much bigger than me everyday.
What has been the highlight of your service?
My role is predominantly office bound, as a result the highlights for me have always been the opportunities to interact with the actual delivery of the program and its beneficiaries. Visits to COSAT and the Youth Clinic have been the most fun part of the experience thus far.
What do you think makes CRF an exceptional organization?
Definitely the people. I never miss an opportunity to remind the team that they are CRF’s biggest cost center but that is because they are what make CRF work. The people and their passion are what make CRF truly exceptional.
