We use radio to amplify youth voices across Africa, giving them the skills and tools to speak about their lives
Name of staff member: Unathi Ndiki
Location: Cape Town, South Africa
What is your background?
I am from East London, in the Eastern Cape province. I would like to describe myself as an artist, an art activist. I have background in performance art theatre. I am also an entrepreneur, and I have a company called Railway Communication, which is concerned with book publishing.
How did you get involved with CRF?
I recently applied for a job at the organisation. Being with CRF is an opportunity to inspire young people to express themselves using radio, and also for them to tell their own stories.
What makes you excited to go to work every day?
To learn from young reporters, to facilitate a conducive learning environment for all of us. I believe that we need to pay particular attention to the issues that young people are dealing with so as to find workable solutions that will be good to everyone.
What has been the highlight of your service?
Everything is a learning for me, I guess being part of an organisation that works alongside young people, you need to present yourself to them as a blank canvas and learn from them, let them set their own agenda.
What do you think makes CRF an exceptional organization?
The kind of leadership that is here makes this organisation special. You are given an opportunity to discover things that you would like to pursue in the future. You can feel the warmth and the love of other staff member, because it is a small organisation. We know each other and as a result you can be supported when you need to be supported.
